Macro & Micro Nutrients
Nutrients are the parts of food needed to maintain a healthy life and to provide building blocks for the cells in the body. They can be macronutrients or micronutrients and come in many forms.
Water, energy, fats, protein, and fiber are all macronutrients which are needed to provide short and long-term energy as well as body building blocks.
Micronutrients, such as minerals and vitamins, are needed in smaller amounts but are still essential to the body.
These nutrients are also what is used to help determine how nutritious a food is, by calculating the amount of moisture, protein, fat, ash and fiber content in a food.
The Basic Macronutrients
Macronutrients are essential and we made sure we get this right.
The correct amounts and types of fats, carbohydrates, protein, fibers and sugars are necessary to maintain a balanced intake and the overall health of your dog.
Unlike most processed dog food, we have not filled our food with loads of carbohydrates since we do not need to extend shelf life, raise calorie levels, or just because we need it in the manufacturing process !
Sugar & ash levels are kept to minimum to ensure no excessive intake, just what your dog needs.
Our food does not contain any caffeine, alcohol nor theobromine as they are extremely harmful to your dog's health.
The above values are set for 500g meal size.
Why Nutrients Are Needed?
AAFCO's minimum nutrient requirements can be checked on their official website; we have summarized them below for easy reference.
Our Perfect Recipe Analysis
Because we have worked so hard focusing on perfecting nutrient intake during recipe development, we know that it will naturally provide all the nutrients your dog needs and here is the analysis to prove it!
The below demonstrates our recipe's compliance to the minimum nutrient requirements set by AAFCO. 4pawz meals also comply with the maximum daily intake set for certain nutrients by AAFCO.
The above values are set for 500g meal size for a typical 20Kg adult dog of normal activity level and are based on a dry-matter basis. Nutrient profiles for dog foods presume an energy density of 3.5 kcal ME/g dry matter. Rations >4 kcal/g should be corrected for energy density.
Perfection is not just about having sufficient amounts of nutrients; other factors also come into play.
We have taken the extra step beyond simple compliance because we seek perfection.
